It is believed that the island of São Miguel was discovered around 1432. The island belongs to the Azores archipelago and is located in the eastern group. Replete with numerous different varieties of vegetation, it is now known as the “Green Island”.
- Vista do Rei Viewpoint – Located in Sete Cidades, this is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful landscapes on the island, offering a view of the Green and Blue Lagoons.
- Furnas Parish – A parish with so much to offer, from its lagoon to the famous “Cozido à Portuguesa” (Portuguese stew) prepared underground under the heat of volcanoes, a bath in the Poça da Dona Beija hot springs is a must.
- Lagoa do Fogo (Fire Lagoon) – The second largest lagoon on São Miguel, Lagoa do Fogo is also the highest on the island, located atop a mountain, and has been classified as a nature reserve since 1974.
- Ponta do Sossêgo Viewpoint – Located in the Nordeste council, it offers a wide view of the island’s north coast. It also has a garden with various types of flowers where you can have picnics.
Congro Lagoon – A lagoon that, in addition to having crystal-clear water, is also densely forested, allowing you to observe various species of birds.
