🌋 “Local Stories of Our Volcanoes”: Discover the Legends Behind the Azores’ Volcanic Landscapes
The Azores UNESCO Global Geopark has launched the publication “Local Stories of Our Volcanoes”, a unique digital book that explores the deep connection between volcanic landscapes, local culture, and traditional storytelling.
This international project brings together contributions from 14 UNESCO Global Geoparks, part of the European Geoparks Network, highlighting the shared volcanic identity of these territories.
đź“– Local legends that explain volcanic origins
This publication stands out for its creative approach: it combines local legends and traditional stories with scientific explanations of the geological features that shaped each region.
In the Azores, one of Europe’s top destinations for volcano tourism and nature travel, these stories offer visitors a deeper understanding of iconic landscapes such as crater lakes, volcanic formations, and geothermal areas.
🌍 A multilingual and multicultural publication
One of the most remarkable aspects of this book is its accessibility: it is available in 10 different languages, including English and the native languages of each participating territory.
This reflects the geoparks’ mission to promote:
