The “Best Pineapple in the World”
The Pineapple Culture Interpretation Center (CICA), located in the historic center of Fajã de Baixo – considered the “pineapple capital of the Azores” – responds to the imperative of preserving the historical memory of this activity and promoting the tourist use of its unique characteristics, anchoring in this suburban area of Ponta Delgada the visit not only to the permanent exhibition, but also to the plantations.
It is a space that tells the story of pineapple cultivation in an attractive way, with the mission of valuing and disseminating our values and traditions.
In the exhibition space, visitors can take a “journey” through the history of the pineapple and learn about the facts and technological evolution that led to obtaining the “best pineapple in the world”.
Information is available regarding knowledge of the phases of the pineapple production cycle, the entrepreneurs who characterized its economy, historical figures, gastronomy, among other aspects.
